Is PMA right for you?
The PMA charter is selective by design. It is not intended for everyone — and that is the point. This page helps you honestly assess whether this qualification pathway aligns with your professional profile, readiness, and commitment level.
Who PMA was built for
PMA is designed for professionals with active engagement in the precious metals ecosystem. These are the profiles most commonly represented among charter candidates.
Precious Metals Dealers & Brokers
Active dealers, OTC brokers, or wholesale intermediaries facilitating physical precious metals transactions at a professional level.
Custodians & Vault Operators
Professionals managing allocated or segregated precious metals storage, custody chains, and titled metal on behalf of clients.
Commodities & Financial Professionals
Traders, portfolio managers, and advisors in commodities or alternative assets who deal with physical precious metals or precious metals-linked instruments.
Compliance & Risk Professionals
AML officers, compliance leads, and risk managers in precious metals-adjacent businesses who need to demonstrate sector-specific competence.
Logistics & Settlement Specialists
Professionals in precious metals transport, insurance, assaying, refining, or settlement operations with relevant operational experience.
Independent Consultants & Advisors
Independent professionals advising clients on precious metals acquisition, storage, or investment who want a verifiable professional standard.
This pathway is for you if
You have relevant professional experience
You have worked professionally in precious metals, commodities, financial services, custody, logistics, or a directly adjacent field.
You take qualification seriously
You understand that a governed charter requires real effort — structured learning, documented evidence, formal examination, and ongoing accountability.
You can provide professional documentation
You can submit identity verification, professional references, experience attestations, and any applicable entity documentation.
You accept ongoing obligations
You understand that PMA is a continuing commitment — periodic attestation, 24 CE credits per cycle, annual renewal, and Code of Conduct compliance.
You want to raise the industry standard
You believe the precious metals ecosystem benefits from formal professional standards, and you want to be part of establishing that baseline.
You may not be ready if
You lack relevant professional experience
PMA is not an entry-level program. Without meaningful professional experience in precious metals or adjacent fields, you are not yet ready.
You want a quick credential
If you are looking for an online certificate you can complete in a weekend, PMA is not for you. The process is deliberately rigorous.
You are unwilling to undergo review
PMA requires identity verification, character review, and formal examination. If you will not submit to governed review, this is not the right program.
You expect automatic approval
Every PMA application is individually evaluated by the Standards Committee. Completing the curriculum does not guarantee charter issuance.
You view the designation as decorative
PMA carries real obligations — CE credits, attestation, conduct compliance. If you see it as a resume line item, the program is not designed for you.
What the process requires
PMA is a professional commitment. Here is what you should expect in terms of time, effort, and investment.
If you are ready, the process is clear
PMA was designed for professionals who want to be held to a standard. If that describes you, begin with the suitability review.
